We regret to announce that Professor Osamu Fujimura passed away on March 13th. Professor Fujimura was a great pioneer in the field of speech science. He served as Professor at the Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Tokyo, Director at Bell Laboratories, and Professor at The Ohio State University. He had recently moved to Kona, Hawaii to receive medical treatment. The Special Issue of the Journal of the Phonetic Society of Japan entitled “Adventures in Speech Science: Focus on the C/D Model and Its Impact on Phonetics & Phonology” was published in honor of Professor Osamu Fujimura. He provided researchers with continuous support and encouragement, and will be sorely missed.
